In the French trenches, calm reigns.  The "Poilus" are waiting to leave for the battlefield. Among them, Ferdinand, a young hare, is playing the harmonica. A whistling signal is given, the attack begins. It's on the no man's land that he first encounters his enemy, a horrible creature.

The Tales of Alethrion proloque "The First Hero" is about Alethrion, whom the land is named after, and a lovely backpacker girl called Amerath. They are the original creators of the map which we see later in The Reward, carried by Vito and Wilhelm.

One march ends, a journey begins. In a desert land, the last breath of a giant creature spurs the exodus of an entire people.
